Sanding & Polishing Scale Models 101: A Beginner's Guide
Sanding and polishing a Gundam model can help to smooth out any imperfections and give it a professional finish. Here are the steps you can follow to sand and polish your model:
Gather your materials:
You will need sanding paper in various grits (such as 400, 800, and 1500 grit), a sanding block or sponge, a modeling knife or blade, and polishing compound.
Start with rough grit sandpaper:
Begin by sanding the model with rough grit sandpaper (such as 400 grit) to smooth out any rough or uneven areas. Use a sanding block or sponge to apply even pressure and avoid damaging the model.
Progress to finer grit sandpaper:
Once you have sanded the model with the rough grit sandpaper, switch to finer grit sandpaper (such as 800 or 1500 grit) to smooth out the surface further.
Sand hard-to-reach areas:
Use a modeling knife or blade to sand hard-to-reach areas or crevices that a sanding block or sponge cannot reach.
Wipe the model clean:
Wipe the model down with a dry cloth to remove any dust or debris.
Apply polishing compound:
Apply a small amount of polishing compound to a soft, dry cloth and rub it into the surface of the model in a circular motion.
Buff the model:
Use a clean, dry cloth to buff the model and remove any excess polishing compound.
Repeat the process:
If you want a super smooth finish, you can repeat the sanding and polishing process as many times as you like until you are satisfied with the result.
Remember to take your time and be patient during the sanding and polishing process. It can be a bit time-consuming, but the end result will be worth it. Also, be sure to wear protective gear such as a dust mask and goggles to avoid inhaling any dust or debris.
