MG 1/100 MS-07B Gundam Gouf Ver.2.0
Bandai
$51.00The MS-07B Gouf is a mass production close-quarters combat ground mobile suit. It was first featured in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam. The MS-07B Gouf is designed specifically for Earth-based, close-quarter MS combat. It featured much-improved mobility with a powerful backpack and leg-mounted thrusters for jet-assisted jumps based on the YMS-08A High Mobility Test Type. For armaments, it has the 5-barrel 75mm machine gun in its left hand and a heat rod, which could be used as a superheated slicing weapon or as a grappling weapon with a powerful electric shock effect. It also had a powerful heat sword stored within a shield, and could also use the standard Zaku II weapons, such as the 120mm machine gun or the 280mm bazooka. The Gouf outclassed the MS-06 Zaku II in terms of speed, power output, and melee combat ability, but its overall performance was not great enough to be justified by its increased cost. The Gouf's production was cut short by the development of a more cost efficient unit, the more powerful and nimble MS-09B Dom. Despite its very short production run, several variations were produced in limited numbers and it was still deployed across the world alongside Zakus and Doms. One customized unit was piloted by Visch Donahue, which had the original 5-fingered machine gun left hand replaced by a normal manipulator hand, in its place a 3-barrel 35mm machine gun was mounted on the left forearm.
MG 1/100 YMS-15 GYAN
Bandai
$48.00The YMS-15 Gyan is a mobile suit that appears in the TV anime Mobile Suit Gundam. The YMS-15 Gyan was developed by the Zimmad company in the late stages of the One Year War for the Principality of Zeon's second phase main mobile suit development project. It was designed with exceptional close combat ability in anticipation of melee combat against the Earth Federation's mobile suits. When needed, the Gyan can receive fire support from the MS-09B Doms or MS-09R Rick Doms. However, its focus on close combat resulted in lower versatility and this contributed to its loss to the Zeonic's MS-14 Gelgoog.A Gyan (depending on sources, this is either the sole unit produced or one of three produced units) was later customized for use by Colonel M'Quve of the Mobile Assault Force. A powerful beam saber serves as Gyan's primary weapon, it also has a shield with 60 needle missiles and 25 hide bombs (space mines) for laying traps. The appearance of the Gyan, with its silver armor and Pickelhaube helmet design, has a strong resemblance to a medieval armored knight. This is further emphasized by M'Quve's fighting style, which is heavily based on fencing.
MG 1/100 Mobile Suit RX-78-2 Gundam Ver.Ka
Bandai
$37.00The RX-78-2 Gundam is the titular mobile suit of Mobile Suit Gundam television series. Part of the RX-78 Gundam series, it was built in secret on Side 7. The Gundam would turn the tide of war in favor of the Earth Federation during the One Year War against the Principality of Zeon. It was primarily piloted by Amuro Ray. What is Ver.Ka In 2002, Bandai started releasing a Master Grade line under the label of “Ver. Ka” (Version Katoki), in honor with veteran mecha designer Hajime Katori. Some of the Ver. Ka kits were produced as a result of annual fan votes.
MG 1/100 Wing Gundam Ver.Ka XXXG-01W
Bandai
$45.00 $37.00The XXXG-01W Wing Gundam (aka Gundam Zero-One) is the titular mobile suit of the Mobile Suit Gundam Wing series. The unit was primarily piloted by Heero Yuy.Out of the five original Gundams created for Operation Meteor, Wing Gundam is the most well-balanced in terms of abilities and bears the closest resemblance to their common ancestor: the XXXG-00W0 Wing Gundam Zero. Similar to Wing Zero, the Wing Gundam can transform into an alternate flight form known as "Bird Mode" and has a powerful Buster Rifle as part of its armaments. However, the "ZERO System" interface (which had technical problems) and other parts considered to be excessive were not included, and the skills of the pilot are needed to make up for the shortfall. The major contributor to Wing's mobility is the pair of wing units on the backpack. These units not only generate lift but can also change the aerodynamic characteristics of the mobile suit through the movements of their individual panels, supporting a range of speeds from stall to hypersonic. Even in outer space, the wing units exhibit high attitude control capability using both AMBAC and built-in vernier thrusters. By transforming into Bird Mode, Wing's mobility and movement range are increased further, allowing it to conduct operations that other Gundams could not. The leg thrusters on the back of the knees serve as the main verniers in Bird Mode and are also used for dashing on the ground in MS mode. The Wing Gundam EW is Hajime Katoki's redesign of Wing created after the release of the Gundam Wing sequel OVA/movie Endless Waltz, which has been featured in the Glory of the Losers manga re-telling of the series (among other works). The redesigned Wing retains largely the same armament and abilities, but resembles Wing Zero in appearance even more than before and can be equipped with extra energy cartridges to enable the Buster Rifle to fire a maximum of nine shots instead of three.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes a Master Grade kit different from High Grade?
Master Grade (MG) kits are 1/100 scale and feature internal frames, higher part counts, and greater articulation than High Grade (1/144) kits. They emphasize realism, mechanical detail, and structural engineering over simplicity.
What does “Ver.Ka” mean?
“Ver.Ka” stands for “Version Katoki,” referring to kits redesigned by mecha designer Hajime Katoki. These releases emphasize proportion accuracy, realistic decals, and refined mechanical detailing unique to his design style.
What is the difference between Ver.2.0 and Ver.3.0?
Each Ver. release represents a new engineering generation. Ver.2.0 added full internal frames and greater mobility, while Ver.3.0 introduced improved panel separation, sharper mechanical styling, and higher pose stability.
What is MGEX?
MGEX stands for “Master Grade Extreme.” These kits incorporate premium features such as LED light systems, metallic finishes, or layered armor effects, exemplified by the MGEX Unicorn Gundam Ver.Ka (2020).
How complex is a typical Master Grade build?
Assembly typically takes 5–10 hours depending on skill level and model complexity. MG kits are recommended for intermediate to advanced builders, though simpler MGs like the RX-78-2 Ver.2.0 are suitable for dedicated beginners.
Are Master Grade kits compatible with Bandai action bases and decals?
Yes. MG kits support Bandai’s 1/100 scale action bases and use compatible water slide or dry transfer decals, allowing custom display options and high realism.
What materials are used in Master Grade kits?
Most MG kits are made from high-quality PS, PE, and ABS plastic. Some models feature polycaps for smoother joint movement or optional metallic-plated parts for aesthetic detailing.
What are the main sub-lines under Master Grade?
Notable sub-lines include Ver.Ka (Version Katoki), Ver.2.0, Ver.3.0, and MGEX (Extreme). Each represents a different design philosophy, level of refinement, or inclusion of premium materials and mechanics.
How tall are most Master Grade Gundam kits?
Completed MG kits typically stand 18–22 cm (7–9 inches) tall depending on the mobile suit, offering a substantial display size ideal for collectors.
Can Master Grade kits be painted or customized?
Absolutely. MG kits are ideal for painting, weathering, and custom modifications. Their part separation and inner frames make them highly adaptable to advanced customization techniques.
